Giovanni Battista di Jacopo says Rosso Fiorentino (1494-1540).

Formed in Florence by Andréa del Sartro it is one of most significant representing school of Fontainebleau.

It settles in Rome in 1524 to study there the Antiquity and works of Michel Ange. The creation of Eve, the Original sin (1524) and Christ dead (1526) are the principal witnesses. In 1526 it is called at the court of king de France François 1st which entrusts to him the decoration of the castle of Fontainebleau. In collaboration with Primaticcio it develops its own system of decoration, taking as a starting point the the work of Giulio Romano to the Palate of Tè with Mantoue. It thus places France and Fontainebleau at the first rank of the European artistic centers. Its principal work is the François gallery 1st carried out between 1531 and 1540. Topics of traditional Antiquity are inserted within frameworks in stucco decorated with heavy decorative reasons which structure the walls horizontally and vertically. This decorative style of Rosso had a great repercussion at the international level.

Sometimes it gives to the characters represented the features of certain members of the court. Rosso Fiorentino adds to the complex concentrations of the characters of the mannerism with their movements and their passions exaltées like their clear colors and of the pleasant decorative elements which refine and moderate works. The compositions become lighter and ventilated. It is extremely probable that Rosso Fiorentino thus seeks to translate in an exacerbated way the artificial side of the company of its time.
