Louis Comfort Tiffany. Landscape with Waterfall. Stained glass. (1920).

In the art of the stained glass a relatively simple subject can have a very important visual impact. It is the case here. The eye exerted the reference mark immediately. Contrasts between complementary colors are numerous and violent one. Blue and orange, red and green the cold colors answer the hot colors because the eye when it perceives a color calls its complementary automatically. It is what Eugene Chevreul in 1839 discovers and which it states in a work entitled : Law of the simultaneous contrast of the colors and set of the coloured objects. Many painters were interested in the writings of Chevreul, and in particular Delacroix, Seurat and Signac. Chevreul discovers that to modify the value of a color it is enough to modify the color which surrounds it. Because the colors influence the ones with the others. Here we have the yellow bottom of the sky which emphasizes blue. This same blue calls its complementary orange located beside him but also with before plan. The green of the trees and nature contrasts violently with the red of the flowers. Tiffany varies thus tones them color of glass it is a whole series of tones different which contrasts and are answered. With the zoom you will see that small keys the blue ones are present a little everywhere on the stained glass. They answer the vast yellow zones and oranges. The colors of the stained glass naturally have much light and glare. Thus the contrasting effects are amplified by the stained glass and our eyes cannot complain some.

The horizon is rather high and the point of view of the spectator also.

The waterfall is on the low tension field, red flowers on the left tension field. 2 naturals points of interest are used.
